Canadian Utilities Broke Ground on Yellowhead. Service Is Still Late 2027

Canadian Utilities said October 13 it held a groundbreaking on the $2.9 billion Yellowhead gas pipeline from Peers to Fort Saskatchewan. The 235-kilometre line is fully contracted for 1.1 billion cubic feet a day. AUC approval came in July. That is construction start, not a 2026 volume add.

Canadian Utilities Limited (TSX: CU), through ATCO Energy Systems, said October 13 it celebrated the groundbreaking of the Yellowhead Pipeline with government officials, Indigenous leaders, and industry partners. The CNW note is dated October 13. The project is a $2.9 billion, 235-kilometre natural gas transmission line from the Peers area to Fort Saskatchewan, delivering about 1.1 billion cubic feet a day into Alberta's Industrial Heartland. The company said capacity was fully subscribed before the Alberta Utilities Commission approved the project in July.

CEO Bob Myles called Yellowhead the largest project in the company's history. COO Jason Sharpe said pre-construction work had already started after the AUC decision. Canadian Utilities expects about 2,000 direct construction jobs and in-service by late 2027. The filing is separate from the Emera agreement to acquire Canadian Utilities, which still targets a 2027 close.

Yellowhead feeds the same Heartland gas market Pembina Pipeline Corporation (TSX: PPL) is building Heartland Extraction against. That plant is a late-2029 ethane story. This note is pipe construction. It is not NGTL receipt change this winter and not FortisBC wire work.
