Tuesday was the deadline. The pipe is still down
Enbridge Inc. (TSX: ENB, NYSE: ENB) posted a September 7 incident update on the Line 5 natural gas liquids release in Iron County, Wisconsin. Crews continue working around the clock on a temporary bypass approximately 1,500 feet long around the release site, with the goal of restoring service by September 12.
That is past the September 6-8 restart window Enbridge cited September 3. Line 5 has been shut and isolated since August 25, when an unoccupied subcontractor flatbed truck rolled into an excavation at a valve project and struck the pipe. The release was NGLs, mainly propane and butane. No injuries were reported.
On September 7 Enbridge said crews continued removing liquids from the construction trench using compressed air to encourage vaporization. Community air monitoring showed safe air quality outside the evacuation zone. Soil and water monitoring plans are in place. The flatbed truck remains on site pending investigations. A no-fly zone over the site remains in effect per the Iron County Sheriff.
Enbridge began bypass staging September 6. Based on the updated construction timeline it now anticipates restart September 12. Keyera has estimated a $30 million hit to 2026 Marketing margin from the outage.
