Thursday's number is U.S. working gas. It is not NGTL receipts
The EIA Weekly Natural Gas Storage Report, released October 16 at 10:30 a.m. Eastern, put working gas in Lower-48 underground storage at 3,567 billion cubic feet as of Friday, October 9. That is a net increase of 67 Bcf from the prior week. Stocks were 143 Bcf below a year ago and 45 Bcf above the five-year average of 3,522 Bcf. The injection was narrower than the five-year average build for the same week, pulling the surplus versus that average to about 1.3 percent.
Regional builds in the EIA tables were led by the Midwest and East. South Central stocks remain slightly below the five-year average in industry summaries. Henry Hub futures traded softer after the print as traders looked ahead to the next report for the week ending October 16.
No listed Western Canadian producer posted an AECO or storage note against this release. Tourmaline Energy (TSX: TOU), Peyto Exploration & Development Corp. (TSX: PEY), and Birchcliff Energy Ltd. (TSX: BIR) were quiet overnight. TC Energy did not issue an NGTL bulletin tied to the EIA week.
This is the U.S. weekly storage survey. It does not set AECO, does not change Alberta power burn, and is not a Canadian storage FID.
