Two days to the new restart date. The pipe is still down
Enbridge Inc. (TSX: ENB, NYSE: ENB) posted a September 9 incident update on the Line 5 natural gas liquids release in Iron County, Wisconsin. Enbridge said crews working around the clock have made good progress toward gaining full access to the site and restoring pipeline service. Work remains on schedule to bring Line 5 back into service by September 12.
Line 5 has been shut and isolated since August 25, when an unoccupied subcontractor flatbed truck rolled into an excavation at a valve project and struck the pipe. The release was NGLs, mainly propane and butane. No injuries were reported.
Enbridge said community air monitoring continues to show safe air quality outside the evacuation zone. Surface water and a nearby residential well samples showed no impacts. Water monitoring wells around the site continue to show no contamination. Soil and water monitoring plans remain in place. The flatbed truck remains on site pending investigations. A no-fly zone over the site remains in effect per the Iron County Sheriff.
That is past the September 6-8 restart window Enbridge cited earlier in the month. Keyera has estimated a $30 million hit to 2026 Marketing margin from the outage.
