Four days to the new restart date. The pipe is still isolated
Enbridge Inc. (TSX: ENB, NYSE: ENB) posted a September 8 incident update on the Line 5 natural gas liquids release in Iron County, Wisconsin. Line 5 has been shut since August 25, when an unoccupied subcontractor flatbed truck rolled into an excavation at a valve project and struck the pipe.
Enbridge said samples from surface water and a nearby residential well have been tested and show no impacts. Water monitoring wells are installed around the site and testing continues. Community air monitoring shows safe air quality outside the evacuation zone and where crews are working.
Crews continue working 24/7 on a temporary bypass around the release site with the goal of restoring service by September 12. Soil and water monitoring plans are in place, as are plans to test, remove, and properly dispose of soil in the trench. The flatbed truck remains on site pending investigations. A no-fly zone over the site remains in effect per the Iron County Sheriff.
That is past the September 6-8 restart window Enbridge cited earlier in the week. Keyera has estimated a $30 million reduction to 2026 Marketing segment realized margin from the outage.
Neutral read
ENB is on the listed pipeline list. Banks were skipped. Clean water samples and a September 12 bypass target are the facts. Write this as an active restoration file, not as permanent capacity loss. Watch whether regulators sign off on the bypass weld and whether Midwest NGL buyers see deferred volumes into mid-September.
