Restart day is tomorrow. The pipe is still isolated tonight
Enbridge Inc. (TSX: ENB, NYSE: ENB) posted a September 10 incident update on the Line 5 natural gas liquids release near Saxon, Wisconsin. Enbridge said around-the-clock work continues in parallel on safe site remediation and completing a temporary bypass to return the pipeline to service.
Line 5 has been shut since August 25, when an unoccupied subcontractor flatbed truck rolled into an excavation at a valve project and struck the pipe. The release was NGLs, mainly propane and butane. No injuries were reported. Wildlife has not been impacted, Enbridge said September 10.
Community air monitoring shows safe air quality outside the evacuation zone. Surface water and a nearby residential well showed no impacts. Water monitoring wells continue to show no contamination. Enbridge said it continues working with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources on permitting and environmental conditions at the site. The flatbed truck remains on site pending investigations. A no-fly zone remains in effect per the Iron County Sheriff.
Prior updates targeted September 12 for return to service. Keyera has estimated a $30 million reduction to 2026 Marketing segment realized margin from the outage.
