The window moved again. The pipe is still down
Enbridge Inc. (TSX: ENB, NYSE: ENB) posted a September 3 incident update on the Line 5 natural gas liquids release in Iron County, Wisconsin. Restoration plans are progressing toward safely restoring service between September 6 and 8. That is later than the September 5 target Enbridge cited earlier in the week.
On August 25 an unoccupied subcontractor flatbed truck rolled into an open excavation at a Line 5 valve project and struck the pipe. The release was NGLs, mainly propane and butane, not dry gas. No injuries were reported. The affected segment was isolated and Line 5 remains shut.
Enbridge said September 3 that surface water and a nearby residential well samples showed no impacts from the release. Water monitoring wells are installed and testing continues. Air monitoring outside the evacuation zone shows safe community air quality. Crews injected compressed air into liquids remaining in the excavation to encourage evaporation, alongside nitrogen and controlled flaring on the isolated segment. Enbridge is working with PHMSA and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.
Line 5 serves Midwest and Great Lakes refineries and propane facilities. Keyera flagged a $30 million Marketing margin hit from the outage in a separate September 3 release.
Neutral read
ENB is on the listed pipeline list. Banks were skipped. September 6-8 restart window and clean water samples are the facts. Write this as an outage timeline, not as a permanent capacity cut. Watch whether service actually returns inside the new window and whether Midwest NGL buyers see deferred volumes into Q4.
