The restart date moved again. This time it is a bypass, not a patch
Enbridge Inc. (TSX: ENB, NYSE: ENB) posted a September 6 incident update on the Line 5 natural gas liquids release in Iron County, Wisconsin. Crews have begun work on a temporary bypass approximately 1,500 feet long around the release site. Line 5 has been shut and isolated since August 25.
Enbridge said it is advancing two priorities in parallel: safe site access and restoring pipeline service. Crews continue removing remaining NGLs from the trench using compressed air and vaporization. Soil testing and disposal will follow once access is safe. The flatbed truck that struck the pipe remains on site pending investigations.
Based on the updated bypass construction timeline, Enbridge anticipates restart and return to service on September 12. That is later than the September 6-8 window cited September 3 and the Tuesday September 8 hope reported September 4.
On September 5 Enbridge said liquids remaining in the excavation were down to about 140 barrels. Keyera has estimated a $30 million hit to 2026 Marketing margin from the outage.
