Kuala Lumpur signed the same FID Kitimat already announced
Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) said October 20 that all partners in LNG Canada have taken final investment decision on the liquefied natural gas export expansion in Kitimat, B.C. Petronas holds 25 percent through North Montney LNG Ltd Partnership. Shell Canada Energy leads at 40 percent. PetroChina Canada, Mitsubishi's Diamond LNG Canada, and Kogas Canada hold the remaining interests.
The Malaysian state company's statement describes the project as a liquefaction plant plus storage and marine facilities on the traditional territory of the Haisla Nation. Group CEO Tan Sri Wan Zulkiflee Wan Ariffin called it collaboration toward long-term LNG value. Petronas put total project cost in the C$40 billion range in regional press coverage. That figure covers the plant and related infrastructure, not a single train start date.
LNG Canada said in September the expansion takes nameplate capacity from 14 to 28 million tonnes a year with two additional trains, another tank, and a second berth. Coastal GasLink Phase 2 is the pipe twin. TC Energy and LNG Canada have pointed to early 2027 construction and early-2030s in-service on the line.
This is a partner confirmation of an FID already on the record. It is not first production from Phase 2, not a Montney sanction by itself, and not Ksi Lisims FID.
