On September 10 Energy Minister Tim Hodgson and Ukraine's Denys Shmyhal signed a joint energy statement in Calgary. Canada added $10 million to the Energy Support Fund, up to $757 million of EBRD gas-purchase guarantees, and restated the Energoatom-Cameco uranium deal through 2035.
On July 31 Cameco reported Q2 2026 net earnings of $25 million. Production was hit by northern Saskatchewan road conditions but the annual outlook is unchanged. Management cited a robust long-term contracting market with escalated floor prices in the high $70s per pound.
NexGen hosted its 2026 Investor Day on September 1 with a pre-recorded construction plan for Rook I. Management targeted first ore in the third quarter of 2030, freeze plants in Q1 2027, and main shaft sinking in 2028. The project received final federal approval in March.
Cameco's August 19 Q2 release left uranium production at 19.5 to 21.5 million pounds, company share. Net earnings were $25 million. Westinghouse swung to a loss versus a 2025 quarter that had a large Dukovany contribution.
