China Is Still the Last Stamp on Anglo Teck. September Opened Without a Close

Reuters reported September 9 that Chinese antitrust clearance remains the last major outstanding approval for the Anglo American and Teck merger. Teck's September 1 note still pointed to completion eleven trading days after remaining conditions clear, inside a September 2026 to March 2027 window.

The September window is open. The close notice has not landed

Teck Resources (TSX: TECK.A, TECK.B, NYSE: TECK) is still waiting on final regulatory clearance for its merger of equals with Anglo American. Reuters reported September 9 that China remains the last major jurisdiction yet to approve the transaction. Anglo's July 30 leadership note kept the original timeline: final approval expected between September 2026 and March 2027.

Teck said September 1 that once remaining non-effective-date conditions are fulfilled or waived, completion will occur after eleven trading days, at about 10:00 p.m. Vancouver time on that eleventh day. That release narrowed process timing after conditions clear. It did not announce a close date.

Anglo must declare a special dividend of about US$4.5 billion as a condition to the merger. Teck and Anglo agreed to extend the payment window from 30 days to 45 days after the effective date. Anglo has also said the combined company expects about US$800 million of annual pre-tax synergies by the end of the fourth year after close.

September has started. There is no completion notice on Teck's wire this morning.

Neutral read

TECK.B is on the listed mining list. Banks were skipped. A China-last-approval report and an open September-to-March window are the facts. Write this as merger process, not as a copper production raise. Watch a SAMR decision, the eleven-trading-day clock after conditions clear, and whether the US$4.5 billion special dividend timetable moves again.
